Dachshund Rescue of Houston

About DROH

Dachshund Rescue of Houston is a 501(c)(3) corporation supported strictly through donor contributions. Our volunteers include law, accountancy and taxation experts, who make sure that all funds are utilized in accordance with the laws and regulations required to be in full compliance with our tax exempt status. All donations are deductible to the full extent of this law.

Because we have no paid staff or facilities, every dime of your donation goes strictly to the care and vetting of our dachshunds. The events held to raise funds and awareness are self supporting through the generosity of sponsors and donors.

We are a small group of doxie lovers that all happen to call Houston "Home". We love the dachshund breed and can't bear to think of any dachshunds suffering. We have many foster parents and volunteers. If you would like to help, please consider being a foster parent or volunteer.

Our Purpose

We have one sole purpose and that is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Dachshunds in need of a second chance at life and love. We rescue purebred (and a few mixed) dachshunds from pounds and shelters. Some have had a wonderful life but were dumped by their only family at a shelter for no reason at all, while others have been abused, abandoned, neglected and starved of food and human affection their entire life. We believe there is a home somewhere for every dog rescued, some just take a little longer to find.

How We Do It

All dogs that come to Dachshund Rescue of Houston will be checked out by a veterinarian and have the following procedures (at the very least) completed to ensure they are in good health.

~ Spayed or Neutered
~ Heartworm check.
~ If found negative, put on preventative.
~ If found positive, undergone treatment and are now on preventative.
~ Updated on vaccines: Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper, Parvo, Parainfluenza, Leptospirois, Corona
~ Fecal Check
~ Parasites eradicated
~ Dental cleaning and extractions if necessary or advised as needed.
~ Any long-term or potential problematic conditions identified.
All dogs spend at least a little time in foster care to evaluate their temperaments, likes and dislikes of a home setting. This is a vital component to a good, permanent home placement. Foster homes provide good nutrition and an understanding lap. This prepares our precious Dachshunds for life in a world where fear, abuse and starvation are non-existent.

After the dogs are healthy, they are posted as AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION on our website with a picture and profile. If you are interested in adopting a dachshund you can read about our adoption procedures.

Thank YOU!

While we are a small group of doxie lovers, we owe a BIG THANK YOU to our sponsors, foster parents, veterinarians and volunteers.
